Our Mission
Large rental property groups provide accommodations, but the process is usually an impersonal transaction. At Yiayia's Cottage Grand Haven, we strive to honor our Greek tradition of hospitality and make all of our guests feel at home. We encourage renters to get in touch with us at any time if there is anything they need.
Our Goal
A stay at Yiayia’s Cottage Grand Haven is more than a rental agreement. Our family aims to build relationships with the guests who stay in our home. We want your stay to be memorable, and we would love for Yiayia’s Cottage Grand Haven to become your go-to Lake Michigan vacation home.
Why the Name
Our cottage is named in honor of our family matriarch, Yiayia. Papou (grandfather) Gust J Afendoulis and Yiayia (grandmother) Magdalene purchased the home in the early 1960s. Gust and his son John took to remodeling the property. After John pursued religious studies, Gust completed the renovations, and Yiayia moved in permanently until she transitioned to assisted living. Yiayias’s daughter, Nicci and her son, managed and rented the property for many years. After Yiayia passed in 2020, her son, John bought out Nicci’s half, and now his sons represent the next Afendoulis generation as the current owners.
Transition to Rental Property
In 2007, as John's mother found it increasingly difficult to manage the property, she moved out and allowed her grandchildren to care for it. When John's mother moved out, the property shifted from a "home" to a "rental property," as originally intended. Today, Yiayia’s Cottage Grand Haven remains an Afendoulis family home but has grown to offer others the chance to enjoy Grand Haven, Coast Guard City USA, when the family is not using it.
Building Relationships With Our Guests
We aim to create a welcoming environment where guests feel more like family than renters. Our goal is to build lasting relationships with those who stay at Yiayia’s Cottage Grand Haven, turning first-time visitors into repeat guests. We believe that the key to a memorable vacation is the quality of the relationships formed, and we strive to ensure that every interaction at our cottage fosters a sense of belonging and warmth.
